PhD Research Student Position in Immuno-Oncology and Immunotherapy (3 years) (pdf)

INSERM UMR1098 RIGHT – Besançon, France

UMR RIGHT (INSERM – EFS – UFC) research unit is located at the Health campus of Besançon (University of health science, University Hospital, French blood bank, companies such as Diaclone or RD biotec). It is composed of around 150 people organized into 2 teams. UMR Right offers the position of a PhD student in the Immuno-Molecular Cancer Therapeutics (TIM-C) team. The team is interested in the immunology of cancer and develops immunotherapy approaches based on T lymphocytes (CAR-T cells, Transgenic TCR, anti-cancer vaccine). The unique and strong interdisciplinary network of basic researchers and clinical scientists will enable excellent training during the doctoral thesis.


Job description summary:
TIMC team has a strong relationship with clinicians and is able to translate its research to clinical applications (T or NK cell-based therapies, tumor vaccination).
The candidate will work on a project on tumor immunology and immunotherapy in the group of Dr Romain Loyon, he will integrate the Intherapi Graduate School. Dr Romain LOYON has joined the team since 2020 and has focused his research on tumor antigen identification and on the development of T cell-based immunotherapies. He obtained an “ANR JC-JC” grant (French National Research Agency – Young Researcher) in 2021 including a PhD student position for 3 years.



  • Participation in a research project funded by the ANR with the aim of obtaining a doctoral degree. The project aims to identify tumor-specific antigens and develop T-cell based immunotherapy in using experimental protocols and well-defined clinical cohorts of patients.
  • Use of standard methods of cell culture, cell analysis, molecular biology and biochemistry (cell culture, western blotting, qPCR, transduction, flow cytometry)
  • Presentation of the results at national and international congresses and participation in the preparation of scientific manuscripts

Profile :
The position is available for a young scientist highly motivated by projects in cancer research and tumor immunology, at the interface between basic and applied research.
The position requires the following skills:

  • Master degree or equivalent in immunology, tumor immunology / immunotherapy would be a plus
  • Specific knowledge in tumor biology and experience in methods of cellular and molecular biology (T cell culture, flow cytometry and qPCR will be highly appreciated)
  • Additional knowledge and skills in bioinformatics will be welcome
  • Curiosity and passion for cancer research and immunology
  • Ability to work in a team with diverse backgrounds
